Non au démantèlement du CNRS !

Les CRS n'ont pas l'air d'avoir bien peur des chercheurs .. c'est qu'on est des pacifistes, nous. Pas souvent entendus non plus. ;-)

Obviously, this blog wouldn't be French if it didn't feature any protest. So here we go :) We will start with a relatively small protest, peaceful and calm. We (French citizens) had the great idea of electing Mr Sarkozy as a president, and he is being over-zealous, seemingly meddling everywhere he can and pissing everybody off as he does. These days, the government is busy trying to interfere with French fundamental scientific research. Supposedly, we have a very low success : we are only at the 6th worldwide rank in terms of publications !! What they forget to mention is that in terms of funding, we are at the 14th rank at best. So what's the complaint ??

They want to break apart the main public research institute (CNRS for Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique), throwing away in the process fundamental biology research, fundamental computing/informatics research and human sciences. Plus they want to have better control (ie politicians deciding instead of a panel of scientists) the direction of future research. A very grim idea, when you think of how much politicians are influenced by industrial pressure groups (lobbies).

Yay, State-controlled everything, from media to private life, and knowledge discovery.

Et maintenant en Français .. voici la première manif apparaissant sur mon blog ! C'est celle des chercheurs, qui s'opposent au démantèlement du CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique), institut principal de recherche fondamentale en France. Le gouvernement base le besoin de réformes sur les mauvaises performances de la recherche française, 6ème rang mondial en termes de publications. Oublierait-on qu'en termes de subventions, la France est au 14ème rang mondial ??

De plus, les chercheurs tentent de s'opposer à un ensemble de décisions pris sans aucune concertation avec les scientifiques portant sur le CNRS, l'organisation des personnels (scientifiques et administratifs), l'implication croissante des décisions politiques (influencées naturellement par les lobbies et groupes de pressions industriels) dans l'orientation de la recherche en France.

Les chercheurs se sont donc réunis jeudi 19 juin pour s'opposer à l'entérinement du démantèlement du CNRS. Un succès (temporaire) puisque la commission n'a pas pu se réunir, les locaux parisiens étant occupés par les manifestants. A Lyon, nous nous sommes réunis au palais des congrès, où la ministre de la recherche se trouvait. Elle n'a cependant pas daigné descendre parler à ses "ouailles".
